Women busy in creating election wave in their favour

Palpa, April 16th 2017 : With the fever of upcoming local-level election gradually gripping Palpa, women here are more excited about it going to be held for the first time after 19 years.

Women who are expected to spend almost all time doing household chores these days are busy in election campaign as they seek to take the leadership of local-level in their hands with the maximum utilisation of the provision for reserved seats. It has been their regular routine to meet cadres of political parties and reach people’s doorsteps as they want to create the wave of election in their favour.

Women here have taken the upcoming local-level election scheduled for May 14 this year significantly as they believe that the women leadership in the local-level would help address the issues of women to a greater extent.
Bishnu Ghimire Acharya of Rampur who is thinking to file a candidacy for the post of deputy mayor of Rampur Municipality from the Nepali Congress seat pledged to work particularly for the welfare of women if she was elected on the post. “I personally request all voters to see a ‘good’ candidate not the party while voting.”

Likewise, Durga Rana who is likely to vie for the post of deputy-mayor from the same municipality under the CPN (UML) quota is busy in interacting with the local people as a part of the election campaign. She views that women are pushed to backward on every front as they are deprived of leadership opportunities in every state apparatus for years and years.

Kunta Devi Gaire of Rastriya Janamorcha All Revolutionary claimed that she was contending for the deputy mayor post on behalf of the party as she believed that women leadership would help empower women from every angle.
There are two municipalities and eight rural municipalities in the district.
