Kathmandu, April 11th 2017 : The meeting of the Council of Ministers held this evening has appointed Deputy Inspector General Prakash Aryal to the post of Inspector General (IG) of Nepal Police.
The cabinet meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers decided to appoint Aryal to the top post of the Nepal Police, Spokesperson of the Government and Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki said.
Aryal has secured 154.2 scores in the performance evaluation of his past four years’ tenure while Aryal’s competitors Nabaraj Silwal got 152.4 marks, Bam Bahadur Bnadhari obtained 150.2 and Jaya Bahadur Chand received 147.6 marks during the review period.
Earlier, the government had appointed DIG Jaya Bahadur Chand as the chief of the Nepal Police in February but the government move was scrapped following the Supreme Court verdict on March 21. The SC had given a verdict to appoint the person securing highest marks in the performance appraisal, scrapping Chand’s promotion in the IG.
Likewise, the government has decided to withdraw the proposal on constitution amendment based on the consultation with the Madhesi Morcha and CPN (UML) and register the fresh proposal in the House.
Similarly, the government has formed a three-member panel led by Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa to add the local level units in the provinces no. 2 and 5 by considering the demands of the people.
The Committee would submit its recommendations within three days and the federal units would be added according to the recommendation if need be.
