Rupandehi, November 30th 2016 : People of various walks of life in Butwal are against the second amendment of the Constitution of Nepal registered at the Legislature-Parliament Secretariat on Tuesday evening.
Students from many schools and academic institutions and commoners have brought the vehicular operation to halt across Butwal from today morning, protesting the amendment proposal that they claim has split Province No 5.
No vehicles are plying on the road on the East-West Highway and North-South Siddhartha Highway while the markets have remained partially open.
Delineation of federal units is one of the four contentious issues covered in the amendment proposal according to which some changes have been made in Province No 4 and 5.
The constitution amendment which seeks to separate the hilly districts as Palpa, Arghakhachi, Gulmi, Rolpa and Pyuthan among others from province no 5 to 4 is not withdrawn, the agitation will continue, said All Nepal National Independent Students Union (ANNFSU) Rupandehi Chapter President Bal Krishna Pandey.
The demonstrators argue that the Province No 5, which earlier constituted hilly and mountainous districts evenly rich in natural resources and cultural heritages, should not be split from the Province No 5.
Along with Butwal, registration of the constitution amendment bill too has sparked protest in districts as Palpa, Gulmi, Kapilvastu and Arghakhachi.
