{"id":5886,"date":"2017-07-14T07:59:59","date_gmt":"2017-07-14T02:14:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nepalmediaonline.com\/Nmedia\/?p=5886"},"modified":"2017-07-14T07:59:59","modified_gmt":"2017-07-14T02:14:59","slug":"indian-railways-to-reduce-dependence-on-coal-says-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nepalmediaonline.com\/Nmedia\/archives\/5886","title":{"rendered":"Indian Railways to reduce dependence on coal, says minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">India, July 14th 2017: Indian Railways is considering measures to drastically reduce its dependence on coal and shift towards alternative cleaner fuels, Indian Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;As both traffic and freights are going to increase in the future, the Indian Railways face twin challenges of mitigating the green house gas emissions and meeting the market demands,&#8221; he said in the national capital.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Coal forms a large chunk of fuel consumption by the state-owned Indian Railways.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The minister had last month said that the Indian Railways will reduce its dependence on conventional fuels such as diesel by further track electrification.<br \/>\n&#8220;Reducing dependence on conventional fuels is priority for environment conservation and we are targeting electrification of the railway tracks so that the use of diesel may get nominal,&#8221; Prabhu said on the occasion of World Environment Day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Indian Railways is one of the largest train networks in the world, criss-crossing the country.
